Matchbox Pictures is a television and film production company formed in 2009 by award-winning producers Tony Ayres, Helen Bowden, Penny Chapman, Michael McMahon and Helen Panckhurst. Each of the producing partners has over twenty years experience in the industry.
The source of Matchbox Pictures energy is distinct and diverse storytelling. Its strength is matching great projects with great people. Since its establishment it has worked with leading Australian writers, directors and emerging producers. The company thrives on developing the energy and vision of fresh filmmakers who are hungry to tell their stories.
The company’s production My Place (part 1) was recently awarded an AFI for Best Children’s Television Drama. Projects currently in production include The Slap, My Place (part 2) and The Straits. It is also completing the factual programs Leaky Boat, Sex – An Unnatural History and Miss South Sudan Australia (premiered at the 2011 Adelaide Film Festival).
